RECTIFIER AND BATTERY CHARGERS

BATTERY CHARGES :-
Secondary cells once exhausted , need to be charged by DC source having a voltage current characteristics to match the one specified by the battery manufactures . The mains supply voltage is stepped down and rectified by using a bridge connected rectifier to produce the desired output for charging the batteries . Out put is adjustable within a limited range either in small steps, using one or more rotary switches or smoothly , using a VARIPaC - continuously variable voltage auto transformer . DC output is electrically isolated form AC input.

SPECIFICATIONS : -
Battery chargers are designed and made to customer's individual specifications which vary widely . Broad specifications which cover most of the application are :

Input : 240 V,1 phase or 415 V,3 phase, 50 Hz AC
Output : Upto 300 V DC
Capacity : Upto 400 Amps.

SALIENT FEATURES :

  • Air cooled construction.
  • Suitable for indoor/outdoor applications.
  • Fully tropicalised.
  • Liberally designed components and adequately derated diodes.

PROTECTIOS :-

  • HRC / Rewirable fuses in input and / or output lines.
  • R.C. Network across each diode.
  • Current limiting chokes on primary or secondary side of Transformer.

METERING :
Indicating meters to monitor output DC voltage and/or current.
Integrating meter on input side to monitor the energy consumption.

DC MOTOR DRIVES :-
These are used to running DC shut motors from AC mains at one or different speeds, for details ask for our data sheet on DC Motors Controls Panel.

ELECTROPLATING RECTIFIERS :-
These are low voltage high current DC power supplies , mostly working on 3 phase AC input. In exceptional cases , input can be single phase also.

SPECIFICATIONS :-
The broad specifications are :

Input : 415 V 3 phase 50 Hz AC + /- 10 % ( 240 V,1 phase in exceptional cases)
Output : Variable steplessly or in small steps from zero to any value upto 50 V CS.
Capacity : Upto 10,000 Amps.

RIPPLE CONTENT : -
This is an important characteristic for many electro - chemical processes . High ripple content adversely affects the performance of the process . Ripple is an AC component in DC output which is around 48 % in units working on 1 Phase supply and 5 % for units working on 3 phase supply . Using a proper circuit configuration ripple can be reduced to 1 % without using any filters to reduce the ripple further.

CONSTRUCTION :-
These units are made in oil cooled construction to avoid the corrosion of components due to the acidic fumes normally present in elctro chemical process plants.

However , for special applications , these can be made in air cooled / forced air cooled construction , upto a certain capacity.

Smaller capacity units are single unit type, While large capacity units are made in 2 to 3 sections for ease of manufacturing and transportation which are interconnected at site.

These are meant for indoor use only.

SALIENT FEATURES : -

  • Output isolated from input.
  • Diodes de-rated adequately and provided with R.C. Protective network.
  • Output is monitored by Ammeter and Voltmeter.
