CONSTRUCTION :-

These are basically oil cooled , floor mounting construction , immersed in transformer oil, confirming to IS 335 . Cores are rigidly mounted on non magnetic frame and high grade carbon brushes collect the current from side of the windings. Full variation of the output from O to max . Value is available in one revolution (approximately 350 ) of the handle .

Units are supplied without oil . Standard transformer oil is to be filled by the user at site .

Besides manual operation , these are also available in motor operated mode with shaft driven by a high torque low speed drive motor through a gear train . Time taken for the one revolution is 15 seconds upto 100 Amp models & 30 Seconds for above 100 amp models. Higher timings can be provided on request .

VARIPaC is a " continuously variable voltage auto transformer " with many distinct advantages . It is a simple but versatile tool in the hands of engineers and technicians . It provides a steplessly variable voltage output from the fixed input voltage. In turn all the derivatives of A.C. Voltage , such as A.C. current , D.C. voltage & current Intensity of light & heat ,speed of D.C. motors , etc . can be controlled effectively .

VARIPaC is identified by its output current rating which remains constant throughout its operating range . VARIPaC are made in wide range of current and voltage suitable for 1 pH ( 240 V & 415 V ) & 3 phase supply to cater the every need of industy.

Every VARIPaC comes with two alternative connections for input. In " Line Voltage Connection " max. Output voltage is equal to input line voltage & in "Over voltage connection", the max. Output voltage is 12% above the input voltage.

OUTPUT CURRENTS : 2,4,6,8,10,12,15,20,25,28,40,50,60,75,100,150 & 200 Amps.
FREQUENCY : 50 /60 Hz.
CONSTRUCTION : Open ,flush or back of panel mounting ,for using in panels. Encased ; in aircooled sheet metal cabinets for using seperately along with other equipment.
Oilcooled for heavy duty industrial applications ,particularly in dusty , & corrosive atmosphere. VARIPaCs are basically meant for indoor applications.
OPERATING MODE : Manual,Where the output is varied manually by the knob provided on the shaft.
Motorised : Brush arm driven by a drive motor coupled to the shaft. The drive motor used in slow speed, high torque, AC synchronus motor working on 230/240 V, 1 pH , 50 Hz supply.
The drive motor is reversible ,having instant start, stop and reverse characteristics, standard timing for complete rotation available are 8,15 ,30 & 60 secs.

APPLICATIONS :

VARIPaC is useful in innumerable places wherever smooth variation of voltage and its derivatives is required . To list few ---

CONSTRUCTION :-
VARIPaC is an autotransformer of special construction. It consists of a single layer winding on a torroidally wound core, made from high grade silicon steel sheets. A high grade carban brush moves on commutator surface formed on one side, by carefully peeling the insulation on wire and collects the current from winding. Brush makes contact with next turn, before leaving the previous one, thus maintaining the continuity. Load does not see any break in the circuit.

Three phase VARIPaCs are made by mounting 3 No. of pH , units in tandom. A single knob fitted to a common shaft moves all the 3 brushes simultaneously.

SALIENT FEATURES :-

  • Core is made of high grade ,non aging continuous CRGO Strip , and carefully annealed; resulting in low magnetising current and core losses.
  • Variation in output voltage is by transformer action by changing number of turns included in the circuit.
  • Variation in the output is linear . Dial indicates the approximate output voltage at no load (for rated input voltage ) Dials are also available marked in percentage.
  • VARIPaC does not produce any distortion in the wave form.
  • VARIPaC can withstand heavy overloads of short durations such as starting currents of motors.
  • Brush holders made of rectangular section (as against the square), eliminate the possibility of its fixing in wrong direction and consequent burning of winding.
  • Use of precision machined components ensure the uniform - operating torque for brusharm.
  • A specially designed spring holds the carbon brush pressed uniformly against the commutator surface , provides a firm contact and eliminates sparking at commutator.
  • VARIPaC is fully tropicallised to give an uninterupted service in tropical atmosphere.
  • VARIPaC confirms to IS 5142-1969.
